Secrets & Easter Eggs
The Thing, Minecraft, Borderlands and Goonies references.
Secrets and easter eggs in Torchlight II.
- Resident Evil 4: An early vendor resembles the mysterious merchant from RE4 — opening his jacket to reveal his wares in a similar manner.
- The Thing: In the Frosted Hills there's a special dungeon paying homage to John Carpenter's 'The Thing'. Inside you find a book with notes from Blair; later a transforming Netherfiend boss (a nod to the shape-shifting alien), a Kennel with wolves that turn into Netherfiends, and finally a special weapon called 'Macready's Shotgun', a reference to Kurt Russell's character.
- Minecraft: In the Caustic Caverns beneath Sanctuary, at the furthest edge there's a shallow incline. Follow the left-most cliff to find Minecraft blocks; breaking them leads to an area with creepers, a golden ore block and a special outfit for defeating the creepers.
- Borderlands: In Act 3 'Some Assembly Required', a hidden CL4P-TP (Claptrap) is in Bloatfang's area. Defeat Bloatfang, then follow the path south and west around the boss area; among the rocks Claptrap congratulates you and gives 'Claptrap's Bolt' (10% charge rate / 5% chance to Shock for 5s, item level 32).
- The Goonies: The optional Plunder Cove quest in Act 1 is full of references to the 1985 film 'The Goonies'. There's a lootable corpse named Chester Copperpot and the boss One-Eyed Willy. Copperpot always drops 'One-Eyed Willy's Other Eye' and Willy can drop 'One-Eyed Willy's Eye'.
