Tips
Boost, drift, missile evasion and PC settings.
Tips for Star Wars: Squadrons.
1.Preventing Lock-Ons
An enemy must complete a lock before firing a missile. Prevent it with erratic movements or by placing asteroids/space stations between you — if they can't see you, they can't lock. Components like the Scrambler Shield and Dampener Hull prolong enemy lock-ons.
2.Evading Missiles
Once a missile is fired, make quick sharp turns in different directions. Set your throttle to half speed for better maneuverability. With boost charge you can outrun some missiles. If you've mastered drifting, boost past an obstacle, drift and turn, then boost again to duck behind cover.
3.Countermeasures
When evasive maneuvers aren't feasible (a narrow tunnel or attack run), use your countermeasure. All four types do the same thing: prevent the missile from hitting you. Learn its effective range and activate it when the missile is within range.
4.Boost
First overcharge your engines: D-pad Left / mouse west transfers power to engines. When the blue engine bar fills, a yellow meter (boost amount) starts filling. With charge, click the left thumbstick / press Space to boost. When the yellow meter empties, boost disengages automatically (click again to end manually). Boost gives huge speed but greatly reduces maneuverability.
5.Drift
While boosting, hold the left thumbstick / hold Shift and turn the ship with the right thumbstick. You keep your current heading but gain brief directional control — fire perpendicular to your travel, spin 180° to hit a tailing enemy, or make a sharp 90° turn around an obstacle.
6.PC: Disable Motion Blur
In C:\Users\youruser\Documents\STAR WARS Squadrons Steam\settings\ProfileOptions_profile, set GstRender.Motionblur 0.000000, GstRender.MotionblurEnabled 0, GstRender.MotionblurEnabled_VR 0. For DirectX12, set GstRender.EnableDx12 1 in the same place (BootOptions and ProfileOptions_profile).
7.PC: Crash-to-Desktop Fix
Crashing during flight (especially solo modes with AI): set the 'Volumetric' video setting to Medium; and/or switch to windowed (with frames) mode and enlarge the window slightly rather than maximizing. The bug is usually specific moments in AI fleet training and the campaign's early missions.
