Useful Facts

Things worth knowing about the mechanics.

Useful facts about SCUM.
  • You can get an infection from dirty bandages.
  • Drones that fly around watching players are just for atmosphere.
  • The more layers you wear, the more you sweat and the faster you dehydrate. Dry clothes by standing near a fire.
  • If hunger or thirst hits zero, stamina suffers but you survive a while. Two thirst levels: Thirsty and Dehydrated. You should drink ~300 ml of water per hour (varies per character).
  • You can chop up puppets and eat their meat. You can't use 3rd-person as an advantage over 1st-person.
  • You can craft with items in the vicinity; you gain fame points for almost every action.
  • No base building, but a better system: fortifying buildings.
  • You can get poisoned by alcohol, get diarrhea from lots of unclean water, and overeating/drinking harms you. A fat character survives longer without food thanks to stored fat.
  • 24 in-game hours are 6 real hours (day 4h, night 2h; server owners can change this).
  • Guns can jam, so clean them occasionally. Puppets can be distracted, but mecha robots can't.
  • You can farm weed and craft your own ammo. You should urinate sometimes; you can become an alcoholic and depend on it.
  • You can track footsteps in focus mode. Crafting-menu colours: Grey = recipe/blueprint not discovered; Yellow = missing some items; Red = have none of them.
  • Your character has 2 stamina types; the one used in hand-to-hand restores faster. Landing 2 punches without being hit triggers a combo for a free 3rd punch.
  • When you re-enter the server you spawn nearby, not where you left. There are high-risk high-reward zones like the airfield. Clothes get wet and much heavier in water.
